“Help put the homeless issue to bed”

Having a safe and secure place to call home or even just stay - it’s part of what makes us human. With winter bringing cold wet weather to many areas we all know how pleased we are that we have such a place.   Unfortunately, close to 120,000 Australians will be homeless on any night – one quarter will be women with young children and one third will be under 25years old.

The reasons for people becoming homeless are complex, and increasingly families and mothers and children are seeking assistance from services.   As many as 2 out of 3 people seeking emergency accommodation will be turned away due to there being 'no room'.   That is why the owners, management and staff at a number of leading hotels will partner with us to support our Hotel campaign in 2009.

During the months of August and September we ask all guests at participating hotels to add a $2, or more, donation for StreetSmart onto their room bill.  100% of your donation will support grassroots projects, often helping people find emergency accommodation and meals and also working to find longer term solutions to help people move out of homelessness. It’s a simple idea that will help change many lives and we encourage you to book at these hotels and leave a generous donation.  It makes for a good night's sleep all round.
