CafeSmart Grants of $71,300 support 38 projects

The CafeSmart event and other recent fundraising allows StreetSmart to support 38 community projects

This is really exciting. For the first time in 8 years we have been able to make a second grants distribution in the same year. Due to the fantastic efforts of all involved in our CafeSmart event, your online donations and the Longrain City2Surf Team we are supporting 38 projects in local communities. In the recent round of grants we have distributed $71,300 to 38 projects. For the first time we are supporting projects in Tasmania and Western Australia.

As usual there is a wide variety of projects assisting people who are homeless, people at risk and people who are moving out of homelessness. For example in Sydney we are supporting Phoenix House Youth Services to purchase Kitchen Starter Packs for young people moving to independent living, in Victoria we are supporting Brenda House to offer Art Therapy for young kids who are homeless due to domestic violence, in WA we are supporting the BIG Issue, in SA the Adelaide Day Centre are providing Christmas Hampers, and in Queensland we are supporting Open Doors and their work with Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender homeless young people aged 18-25 yo.

“How fabulous – we are so excited! I was only looking at all the clients crushed into our tiny kitchen and sitting on the stairs trying to eat their lunch on their laps because it was raining outside the other day and crossing my fingers for a courtyard that could be accessed in all weather. On behalf of all the clients, volunteers and staff of Lou’s Place, thank you so much for providing another “room” for our elderly clients to have somewhere to sit if they are not capable of negotiating our stairs, for our clients to eat their lunch in comfort and participate in creative expression activities come rain, hail or shine.
