StreetSmart goes to the Gold Coast

In 2008 StreetSmart launched on the Gold Coast with the support of Mayor Ron Clarke.

Mayor Clarke said  “Why not give ‘the gift of giving’ this Christmas? In doing so, you’ll be supporting not only the local chapter of a deserving charity, StreetSmart Australia, but also the Gold Coast restaurant industry – all while enjoying some of our city’s delectable fare. Running for the six weeks until Christmas Eve each year, the StreetSmart campaign enlists restaurateurs to invite diners to add $2.00 to their table account. These contributions go directly into a grants program that local charities utilise to assist people experiencing homelessness.  A good friend of mine, the Reverend Tim Costello (who is also the CEO of World Vision) is StreetSmart’s Australian patron, and although this campaign is new to the Gold Coast, it’s been running successfully in other cities for five years, including Brisbane in 2007.”

With Mayor Clarke are Lynda Woods from StreetSmart, Mayor Ron Clarke and Steven Adams from Moo Moo The Wine Bar + Grill one of the participating restaurants.
