The Front of House All Stars Dinner brings together seven of Melbourne’s most talented, gregarious and dare we say, rather handsome front of house lads to command the floor and raise money for StreetSmart.
The event was held for the first time last year, and event convener and StreetSmart ambassador Luke Stringer of Mezzo Bar & Grill* (the restaurant about to be formerly known as Oyster Little Bourke) has got the team back together again for 2010. Adam Cash (Cutler & Co), Sam Christie (Longrain), Simon Denton (Verge / Izakaya Den), Sean Kierce (Ladro) and Chris Young (Jacques Reymond) will join Luke Stringer and donate their time to present a six course dinner which sees signature dishes from each of their restaurants matched to their favourite wines. Joining the All Stars will be Erez Gordon (ex Jacques Reymond and The Botanical) who will MC the event in his inimitable style.
Last year, every cent from the dinner was handed over to StreetSmart with a grand total of $20,000 raised at the event (which surprisingly ended in a spontaneous auction of the t-shirt off Luke Stringer’s back). The monies went directly to StreetSmart’s projects that aid the homeless.
Luke brought the event to life after throwing a few ideas around with some of his sommelier and front of house peers. “We’ve all known each other for ages and we rarely get a chance to work together. Often such events focus on the collaboration of Chefs, which is of course wonderful. But we thought we’d create a fun event that involves the people that make the floor of a restaurant tick, and in doing so raise some important funds for a not-for-profit organisation that is personally close to my heart,” said Luke.
